2:10
I took a much-needed nap this (Wednesday) afternoon and am consequently having some trouble dozing off. I’ll use the opportunity and the remaining third of my battery to open up to you a bit.
I signed with a modeling agency yesterday (Wednesday) after a lot of deliberation and consulting with some of my closest friends, mentors, a lawyer, etcetera. The contract left a few things to be...

English From Around the World
Thanks to Mom for passing this on to me.
Wonderful English from Around the World
In a Bangkok temple: IT IS FORBIDDEN TO ENTER A WOMAN, EVEN A FOREIGNER, IF DRESSED AS A MAN.
Cocktail lounge, Norway: LADIES ARE REQUESTED NOT TO HAVE CHILDREN IN THE BAR.
Doctor’s office, Rome: SPECIALIST IN WOMEN AND OTHER DISEASES.
Dry cleaners, Bangkok: DROP YOUR TROUSERS HERE FOR THE BEST RESULTS.

“The eyepiece traces light on the retina at such speed and frequency that residual after-images on the user’s vision appear to create a solid SVGA display, albeit at a deliberately weak intensity so that the outside world can still be perceived. That’s just as well, as there could be some nasty falls if this thing bluescreened.”
Peep this.

Social Media GEEK OUT
So I was being a snarky jerk, making fun of my classmates on Twitter one day, when BAZZAM! Suddenly I’m in the middle of a social media teaching confab. It was fun.
Read about it. It’s short, I promise.

Lesson: You never know who’s listening out there, so keep an open mind and always post with the assumption everyone WILL see it and...

It's A Wash
I don’t know how to feel about today. My most important class this semester, in terms of difficulty and relevance to my field, requires me to cover a news beat on campus and produce one article and one beat report per week. It’s a great opportunity for low-consequence experimentation and failure, and I’m wasting it. My story fell through this week and I didn’t even come...

In-Class Chat
Allison: i don't know about you...but I quit this class looong ago
Colin: One step ahead of you
I dropped it
Allison: hommina?
I think we started drinking orange juice for a pick-me-up faster than coffee, and only later deluded ourselves into thinking it tastes good.

Chicago, October 2009
I went back to Chicago last Thursday in firm defiance of my checking account to join Chava at an audition for a new Mellowtronic drummer. Like most of my visits in the last two years, it was fast, furious, and other low-rent action thrillers.
I am irresistible. I am an Orange guitar amplifier.
Playing to a big, empty room. Story of my life. DePaul Lincoln Park Student Center, midnight,...

Just stumbled upon this hilariously dumb website on a search for a class assignment. Enjoy.
Dog Log, part 3
We made it. And there were only five accidents (that I found).

LeBron James On Major Asian Cities Compared to...
Esquire: Any favorite cities over there?
LeBron James: I like Beijing, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Tokyo —
Esquire: How do they compare to Akron?
LeBron James: No place is better than Akron.
Esquire: Fair enough.
LeBron James: No place.

Dog Log, part 2
Cannolo, one of Mrs. Smith’s dogs I’m watching this weekend, has been demoted from the “adorable” status I gave him in my last “Dog Log” for making me look like this today:
Mrs. Smith warned me to keep the gate in front of the steps closed so he wouldn’t come upstairs unsupervised because he “likes to pee up there.” So I only left the gate...

Dog Log, part 1
So. My mom’s in this women’s volunteer organization that benefits local charities, and this weekend, another member —who we’ll call Mrs. Smith because we’re not feeling very creative today— is out of town visiting her daughter’s family. She asked me to stay in her house, which is in a condo development on the edge of a big valley about ten minutes from where I live,...

Last Night's Risotto
Mom decided yesterday it would be good physical therapy for her healing wrist to cook a semi-ambitious dinner. It was a risotto, “Leek & Pancetta Risotto with Fines Herbes” from Williams-Sonoma. Anyone who’s ever made risotto knows that it can be delicious, but takes forever. The meal ended up being pretty European, meaning only that we sat down to eat it around 21:30.
It...
