It’s Fall — Better Known As Back-To-Being-A-Jerk Time

School started back up this week, and I’m delighted. Those of you who acquainted with me in meatspace (known to some of you as “in real life,” or IRL) probably know my rant about being stuck in college at Kent State well enough to recite it verbatim.

But I tend to stifle this blog in order to protect the things in my life that matter. I want, for example, to limit how much I taint the company I work for with my poisonous personal brand. I want to talk about my band all the time, but the most exciting stuff is limited to the future and conditional tenses, so I play it close to the chest to spare myself embarrassment when my dreams are ground into the sidewalk by the heel of reality.

But school, well, there’s an easy target. My grievances against Kent State are leveled against a mostly faceless institution; it’s rare my diatribes include names attached to feelings (and reputations) that can be hurt.

“But Colin,” you say. (And, for the record, I really don’t appreciate the condescending tone.) “All that complaining about the higher education you’re lucky to receive makes you look like an undermotivated underachiever with a bad attitude.”

Well, then. I think we’re finally getting to understand one another.
